Period 2 : Reading&Grammar
I. The analysis of teaching material
The topic of this unit is about learning methods and learning habits. And the function is to use polite requests to ask for permission. Students need to learn how to make polite requests when you want to ask something politely . Because reading in this part is easy and have a close connection with grammar, so l combine them. This is the second lesson of Unit 1, so the main task of Period 2 for students is to improve the skills of reading and using grammar‘by’ correctly.
II. The analysis of learning condition
Most students from the rural school have an average English level, and they are also not good at reading and grammar.So they will be encouraged to practice more in reading and grammar.The students won’t be very strange for the grammar in this unit. According to the characteristics of the 9th grade students, we all know that their cognition is still based on the specific substance, so this lesson will be closed to the real life. Thus, students will be more easily to learn the new knowledge.
III. Teaching objectives
According to the curriculum standard of English, the teacher sets the following objectives.
A. Knowledge objectives:
1. Through the game and pair work, 80% of students can pronounce and recognize those new words& phrases according to pictures. And at least 60% of students can ues the new language points.
New words&phrases:expression,discover,secret,grammar,repeat,physics,chemistry,note,be afraid to do,as well,discovery,understanding,fall in love with,secret,look up,ask teacher for help,read aloud…
2.More than half of students can master the new language points and the grammar points. And some lower-level students can modify the sentences by changing the key words.

2.How do you practice English?…
B. Ability objectives:
After learning of new words,phrases and sentences ,through the pair work, students can master the skills of reading effectively and use grammar in this unit correctly.
C. Moral objectives:
Through the process of leaning so much , students understand there are many ways to study English,we should find a suitable way for ourselves.
IV. Key points & difficulties
A. Key points:
1. Using the reading skills to find the key points while reading.
2.Master the usage of "by" and the key points in the passage.
B. Difficulties:
The phrases in the passage and know how to use them.
V. Teaching method & aids
In order to help the students to understand the lesson, I choose to use the multimedia devices.

1. Task-based Language Teaching Method (Through activities, students will finish the tasks.)
2. Communicative Approach (Through the pair work, students will be encouraged to communicate with the teacher and their partners.)
3. Grammar-translation approach(Through the translation, students can understand the content of each sentence more intuitively.)

Step 1 Warming-up and revision.

【Purpose】This step is based on the Communicative Approach. The step can arouse the interest of students and check whether they master well for the last class.
Step 2 Pre-reading

【Purpose】This step is based on the Communicative Approach. Through discussing these questions, students can have a basic understanding about what we will learn next.
Step 3 While-reading
1.Work on 3a. (Group work:read the passage and answer the questions..)

3.Work on 3b (Use the words and phrases from passage to compete the sentences. )
4.Language points.(be afraid to do,as well,discovery,understanding,fall in love with,secret,look up…)
【Purpose】This step is based on Task-based Teaching Language Method.After doing 3a,students will understand the main meaning of the short passage. After finishing 3b,students can master the main points in this passage. After teaching the language points with examples carefully,students can have a deeper impression.
Step 4 Post-reading
1.Some exercises about language points.
2.Discussion:what's your secret to English learning?(There is no Royal road to learning.)
【Purpose】This step is based on Task-based Language teaching method and communicative approach. After doing exercises,students can understand the language points better. By talking the secret to learning,students can share the learning methods and know there is no royal road to learning.
Step 4 Grammar focus
1). Observe the grammar focus carefully,and the summarize the usage of "by" again.
2). Work on 4c. (match the questions and answers.)
3).Work on 4b. (complete the statements.)
4.)Work on 4c. (Check what you do to learn English.Then interview your partner.)
【Purpose】This step is based on Task-based Teaching Method and Grammar-translation Approach.The grammar of this unit is not difficult and we have learned it in the first lesson, so it's easy to master the grammar points by doing more exercises.
Step 5 Summary
Summarize the knowledge we have learned in this 2 classes.
【Purpose】This step is based on Communicative Approach. By summarizing, students need to recall the key points, and try to remember them in the class.

1. Retell the passage and review expressions.

【Purpose】This step is based on the Task-based Teaching Method. lt can help students review in time after class.
